Imagine…a dream in the right place at the right time can transform the world. Like a dandelion on the wind, this app, YouVersion, has affected people in places so far beyond what Pastor Bobby first imagined, but all in the infinite scope and design of the Master Creator. Thank you Father for these words of life You placed in YouVersion. May it continue to go beyond our imagination.
“The journey into our best future always passes through the furnace. The fire both forges us to who we must become and frees us to live the life for which we were created.“
Eugene Peterson wrote this in a devotional, As Kingfishers Catch Fire, I am reading through the YouVersion app.
Have you been through the furnace yet? Are you seeing the calluses of being forged by God? Also, the tender places where the fire tenderizes us? God makes no mistakes and has a destiny for each of us. Sense the curl of your lip as you realize the importance you are to the God of the Universe.
Summer is here and many complain of the heat…but really, every year, it warms up. A cycle. A season. I think this is necessary to appreciate all we have. For some, appreciation comes in anticipation. For some, it is joy in the moment. For some, it is only seen through the rear view mirror of hindsight reflection.
Which are you? Can you enjoy the day you are in? Living in the now? Or is it the past that haunts you or the future that intrigues you?
Can you enjoy the furnace? Just some Friday thoughts. Have a great weekend as we go into the next month-J U L Y.
seems like a number so far from the future for someone raised in the 50’s and 60’s of the last millennium. It is almost a science fiction number too ‘out there’ to believe we could call it a year of our life – maybe for the Jetson’s, but this Smith family?
There is actually a possibility I could see 2052 or 2055 like my grandfather! We will take it a day at a time.
In this New Year, I want to continue to grow and prosper as a dedicated information junkie aka ‘lifelong learner.’ It is also my desire to encourage those who walk along this journey. So maybe 2016 will be filled with some little nuggets of discoveries we gather along. Some treasures are hidden in plain sight while others are meant to be worked for.
Let’s see what we can enjoy this year as God speaks to us.
I share a chapel service with a group of 40 guys in a local Teen Challenge program. They are awesome men. I spoke on this story twice in the past three months. It resonates with me. I think it is a place where those who are reconciling their past with their future see a plan and a purpose to the pain they have endured. We need to realize our roles as our brother’s keeper goes beyond our family ties. God has freedom and care for many as He invites us to see how we can see what sin has caused in our world. Yes, it is messy. Just like anything of value, there is work to be done. But it is worth it!
Yesterday, I started with what I have found to be vital for my own life – to not only seek God’s Kingdom over everything else, but to know His focus is on my good. The momentary feelings after enduring a hardship can cause us to wonder but over time, and with the power of hindsight, we see that:
Romans 8:28 Amplified Bible (AMP)
28 We are assured and know that God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.
This is such good news for those of us who only see part of the story. God knows our entire life story. He has allowed us to make choices all along the way but He knows us. He wants us to grow into our full potential. Often we see the New Year portrayed as a child dressed in just a diaper, a new beginning, or as in another image, an unwritten page. We have in this New Year, a wonderful opportunity to walk into new territory, our promised land. To do so, we need to let go of the fears of the past and the fears of the future and live in the now. This is quite a challenge but God would not ask us to live this way if it were not for our best.
Isaiah 43:19 NLT New Living Translation
For I am about to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert!

Hope is the source of our motivation to go boldly into this new year. God is not only already there, He walks with us as we go…we are never alone nor without resources. Walk boldly in confidence, but with a listening ear – we are coming home..

From this altitude, everything looks so peaceful but tsunami waves are going across the seas and making our world seem so small.
We are one family. Pray for your brothers and sisters all over the globe as tragedy affects so many.
Remember GOD is good and will never leave us alone. HE is right here right now. He really loves all of His children including you.
